I’m interested in stories that come from the inconvenient grace of the mess.
“Callie’s writing has the ability to take you deeply into a moment. She is the rock star of description and the queen of the vignette.” — Dave Malone
“Working with Callie helped me not only see the places my writing could improve, but showed me how to improve—and she did it in a way that produced hope, not discouragement.” — Benjamin Vrbicek, pastor and author
“Callie drew things out from me that I didn’t know where there.” — Megan Willome, author of The Joy of Poetry, and Rainbow Crow: poems in and out of form.
I am the most myself when I write.
All of what I am—the broken, scattered pieces; the sharp edges—is laid bare in the loving hands of this Jealous Goddess who promises me nothing except to show me each time I come to the page that I am wonderfully and fearfully made.

“Callie’s grace-imbued writing pierces hearts without sappy sentimentality. Her stories don’t so much bring us into her world as they make our own world larger.”
— Lisa McGovern
I’m Callie—author, editor, teacher.
I like Converse tennis shoes and colorful high heels, reading the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins and the Twilight series. My favorite outfit has always been a well-worn pair of jeans and a white T-shirt, but I want hoop skirts with loads of tulle to come back into style. My favorite line from literature comes from Sharon Creech’s Absolutely Normal Chaos: “I don’t know who I am yet. I’m still waiting to find out.”
